    Edit Photo Details Northern Flicker   #bird #summer #male #northern_flicker
This is a male Northern Flicker. He pecks and pecks and pecks in the dirt (you can see mud on his beak) and it is hard to catch him with his head up. He either heard my camera clicking or heard/smelled (?) a cat nearby so lifted his head for me. They are large birds about 32 cm. I love the way his "moustache" looks painted on him and looks like it continues from his beak down. A beautiful bird!
