I was experimenting on lights and shadows when I took this shot. I thought casting the shadow of the cross on the Bible would accentuate the Holy Scriptures without pointing to a specific verse. To my surprise, I actually made a photographic translation of the words of Jesus when he said to his disciples, "You must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me." (Matthew 16:24) I chose the route of photography to follow Jesus. My camera is my cross.
