Heiltsuk Gold
The Heiltsuk people, whose traditional territory includes Bella Bella, British Columbia, rely heavily upon harvesting the annual herring spawn in their waters for income. Herring eggs on kelp are especially valuable and are a healthy alternative to caviar- and I can attest that they are delicious! This is a leaf of translucent Macrocystis integrifolia (I think!! anyone else know?) that I held up to the sun to backlight.
