The moon rises above Oregon's Mt. Hood in the September 27, 2015 total lunar eclipse. While termed a "blood moon," at this early point of the moonrise the color is more muted. The moon is full, but within the earth's shadow and much dimmer than a normal full moon would be. By the time it turned red, it was well above the mountain and the sky was much darker.
