Most boats traveling the Amazon have three decks. The lower deck is for the crew and cargo. The middle deck is for those on hammocks but in an air conditioned area. The third level, the cheapest to travel in and most popular, is a big open area packed with hammocks and has only natural ventilation. I was in a cabin on level two, but often visited level three to experience the heart and soul of the boat. There were families with young children, and the children played together to pass the time.
