Sacred Landscapes: Paro Taktsang, Bhutan
The Taktsang Monastery is a spectacular religious place. This Buddhist monastery clings to a cliff above Paro valley in Bhutan at an altitude of 3,120 meters above sea level. The only way to reach this sacred site is to hike for several hours up to the cliff. According to the legend, a tigress brought on her back the founder of Bhutan's Buddhism guru Padmasmabhava. A statue of the tiger is located in the Hall of Thousand Buddhas, hence its nickname 'Tiger's Nest'.
