The word armadillo means "little armoured one" in Spanish. They are very interesting animals with a leathery type shell. This little guy teaches visitors in the SD safari park that Armadillos are often used in the study of leprosy because they are particularly susceptible due to their unusually low body temperature, which is hospitable to the leprosy bacterium & most important that there are many species of armadillos that are endangered and/or threatened.
