The cross sits boldy above the Masaya Volcano's crater lip. The indegious people believed the eruptions were signs of anger from the Gods and to appease them offered sacrifices of small children and maidens. 16th century rolls around and the cross was erected. "LA CRUZ DE BOBADILLA" (named after Father Francisco Bobadilla).
