    It's sleeping not dead! When I first saw this scene near the beach at Gulf Islands National Seashore, I thought the bird was dead. Most birds I've seen sleep standing, perched in a tree or protected in the bushes. Skimmers apparently can sleep lying down, resting their bill on the sand.
