Baby orangutan in Tanjung Puting
Forest fires in Kalimantan, Indonesian Borneo, threaten one third of the world’s remaining wild orangutans. This baby orangutan in the Tanjung Puting national park is one of them.
Annual fires in Kalimantan is caused by palm oil plantation. Fires are frequently intentionally lit to clear the land for new plantations and fires have spread beyond plantations deep into primary forests and national parks, the last strongholds of the endangered apes.
