Common paper wasps are social insects, that are common around the outside of homes and in gardens.Although they can be deemed as pests because of their readiness to sting, paper wasps can also be beneficial in that they are predators of some pest caterpillars. Whilst it is said that paper wasps will readily attack and sting anyone approaching or disturbing their nest, after 2 hours of photography about 10 cm away, I didn't find this to be the case.
