Looking into the Depths Beneath
On a cold January day I walked through Shiloh park and was struck by reflections—Sunlight pierced the dark water, illuminating the fallen leaves at the bottom of the pool. It gave a strange appearance, as if the leaves in the foreground remembered their place in the barren branches above. In this immediate area is a pool known as 'Bloody Pond', so-called for the blood of Civil War soldiers who perished there in the Battle of Shiloh in 1862. Heavy reflection that 23,000 died at this battlefield.
