There are whispers that the Eddie Aikau Big Wave surf event will return to Waimea Bay on Oahu, Hawaii's North Shore this week. This shot was taken on a day when the contest nearly ran, but waves weren't quite consistent enough. If it happens this week it will be after a 7 year holding period, as waves must reach a certain height with consistency. This winter has brought large swells to the north shore and the best surfers in the world are ready to honor a Hawaiian legend by riding these giants.
