There is a resident population of sandhill cranes at the Reifel Bird Sanctuary on Westham Island, British Columbia. They are wild birds that have become quite acclimatized to humans and can be photographed walking on the trails of the sanctuary. They don't seem to fly much, so I was lucky to get a shot of one flying by the bare winter trees in the sanctuary.
