It was under a week before I would pack my things and leave New Zealand to go film with the whales in Tonga, before returning home to Europe after an epic three year round the world trip. One last thing left to do - hike the Tongariro National Park crossing mid winter to camp under the stars, and photograph my tent with one of the volcanos and milky way in the frame. It was a cold below 15 degree night, but my partner and I kept warm in this little tent we set up on the South Crater lake.

Wow. This is epic. You are lucky, a three-year around the world trip. Your photo and story is making me question my life choices, thanks for the inspiration. I agree with Your Shot photographer Frank H. who commented, "I love the composition, the light fading from right lit by the moon to darker areas on the left. The Milky Way galaxy leading to the top of the mountain is precisely timed for a focal point-trail leading the eye to the top of take in it’s magnificence." Well done Alexander.
