Woman with facial tattoos from the hill tribes in Chin State, Myanmar. What we heard from our guide is that.. During ancient time, the Burmese kings will visit the hills and want to marry the pretty ladies. They started to tattoo their faces to avoid being forced to leave their village and marrying the king. Over time, it became tradition for the women in this region to tattoo their faces. However, nowadays the young generation no longer tattoo their faces.
