The Wonders of Timna Valley Park
The Timna Park is located in the southern Israel Arava desert, 25 miles north of the Gulf of Aqaba. Copper ore has been mined since the 5th millennium BCE by Egyptians, other peoples and perhaps King Solomon. The park is amazing--we love to go there every year. Ancient rock drawings, a Shrine of Hathor, rare geological features and many walking trails are a delight. This scene is a little off the interior road, as the late afternoon light brought out the reddish tones of the sandstone.
