I volunteered at the Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai, Thailand where Lek Chailert has dedicated her life to providing a happy home for elephants rescued out of the logging and circus trades. Each elephant gets her own mahout (caretaker) for life. This elephant and her mahout are walking to the grazing area. The elephant has a broken hip and is quite lame, so can only walk a very short distance. The walk takes many minutes with many rests. The mahout waits patiently for his elephant.
