My family has a history of depression and suicide.....my mother, father, and grandfather. I inherited those traits myself but have learned with cognitive strategies and medication to cope. So losing my niece Rachael to suicide in her teens renewed all my fears of this insidious disease. I regret not recognizing her struggle and her disconnection from reality shown here as a divided heart. It has made me on guard with my other three nieces to ensure that the cycle will be broken.
