Awoken from our sleeping bags at 3:30 by the beep of our watches, we stomached the daily porridge before setting off at 5:30. We were on an 18 day trek across Costa Rica, from east to west coast. This particular day started with a 4 hour hill climb with the sun coming up behind us, burning our necks.
