Multiflora Roses
Though the flowers are quite lovely, multiflora rose bushes are actually very invasive and considered a significant ecological threat. It was introduced in the eastern US in the 1860's as an ornamental flower and in the 1930's the U.S. Soil Conservation Service promoted it for use in erosion control and as “living fences” to confine livestock. It grows wild nearly everywhere around here - in this case along a wall at the abandoned school in Rio Grande, Ohio, a sure sign of neglect.
