New life growing
Kids play on the headstones of former graves which surround the so-called Hardy Tree in the churchyard of St. Pancras, London. Before becoming a writer, Thomas Hardy (1840-1928) studied architecture in London. Around 1865 he was assigned to oversee the proper removal of bodies and tombs from the land on which the Midland Railwayline would be built. The ash tree has grown in the middle of these headstones since.
