Pyongyang's awakening
A 7 am in the morning, Pyongyang slowly emerges from the darkness, there's almost no light at this time in the city and no sound from traffic. It's very peaceful, like everybody had left the city. The mist is coming from the coal power plant, located in the city and give this bluish tint.
Without your caption, your photo would be just another morning cityscape. But knowing this is Pyongyang, North Korea, I find myself studying your frame more carefully. I find myself examining deeper, looking for signs of human activity — that this is 7AM in the morning fascinates me. Can you imagine New York City, London, Seoul, Moscow, Tokyo, New Delhi — any capital city — ever this quiet?
