Going off the beaten path often leads to surprises. Our first surprise was a mountain goat and then eagles nest that we found once we reached the top of the ridge in the picture. But often it takes longer and harder to go off the beaten path. At precisely this point we were lost and could not find a way forward. With only 2 hours left for sunset there was only one way going forward and this was it.
