Baasanbat, 35 year old former herder, poses at dusk at the Nalaikh – former state-owned – mine site in Mongolia on April 14, 2016. “I do miss my countryside especially Mount Bulgan. I do miss my childhood friends. There was no job in the countryside. That’s why I came here.” Baasanbat’s step mothers mismanaged his father’s herd and lost many of his animals, which pushed him to the illegal mining job 16 years ago.
