    A Mural commemorating Minerva Hamilton Hoyt looks out over visitors as they arrive at the Joshua Tree National Park Visitor Center. Minerva Hamilton Hoyt "Champion of the Desert" , founded the International Desert Conservation League in 1930 and persuaded President Franklin Roosevelt to create Joshua Tree National Monument by proclamation in 1936.
