A Danish friend invited me to a living-history re-enactment of the invasion, occupation, and liberation of Holbaek during WWII. We were joined by his 90 year old grandmother who was a teen during the occupation. In Danish she told stories and reflected, as he translated for me. The war unfolded around us; planes overhead, tanks in the streets, and soldiers patrolling while daily life resumed including love and lovers. Seeing this she recalled what happened to girls who dated the Nazi occupiers.
