A favorite summertime activity for children in rural Nebraska is participating in 4-H events for the county fairs, like raising livestock on their family farms. Mackenzie Sudbeck, 11, rests her head on her cow, Rex, after brushing him on June 25, 2015, near Hartington, Nebraska. Mackenzie and her twin brother, Skyler, raise both bucket calves and market beef calves to show at the Cedar County Fair. Their bond with the animals is apparent in the way they lovingly care for them.

Thanks for sharing this beautiful and intimate moment between Mackenzie and her cow Rex. I appreciate your thorough caption, describing the story behind this image, which further allows me to feel the love she has.
