"Time to rise and shine." Not! Staff Sergeant Costa is the first thing that a marine recruit at the San Diego Marine Corp Recruit Depot would see and hear in the morning during their 13 weeks of training. Sweet and gentle, Staff Sergeant Costa is not. The intensity you see in his eyes is real. This photo was taken in the squad bay, the platoon's "home." As an educator I got to experience one week of Marines basic training (and Staff Sergeant Costa) a few years back. What an experience!
