    Reported by:

World War I battles between Italy and Austria were fought in the Italian Alps and Dolomites. This re-enactor stands guard at the Tre Sassi Fort on the Valparola Pass and honors the memory not only of the Austrian soldiers stationed there, but the mountain troops of both armies, who faced not only enemy attacks and bombardments, fear, hunger, cold, disease, and sickness, but avalanches, loneliness, and desolation, in isolated positions and forts such as this this one.
