Nuthatch Fledgling
The morning after a violent thunderstorm, my dog found this nuthatch fledgling on the lawn. Although the nest must have been very close by, I wasn't able to locate it, so I moved the bird to a drier safer spot. Within minutes a pair of adults flew down to him. It was fascinating to watch throughout the day as they returned repeatedly with food for him. By mid afternoon he had fluttered up to a branch 15 feet above the ground. Hopefully he found his way back to the nest by nightfall.
