Although it doesn't always get a lot of respect in other fields, Newark, New Jersey, in particular the area around Liberty International Airport, has the greatest concentration of transportation facilities in one area in the entire New York City metropolitan area. As can be seen here, Port Newark, the main ocean shipping terminal for New York City, is just east of the airport, which is a large hub for both domestic and international services.
