    Edit Photo Details K15, Int'l Bird Rescue Center Survivor   #sea #fog #pier #pacifica #brown_pelican #birdsofafeather #rescue_animal #k15 #birdsofcolumbia
Once on the brink of extinction due to DDT, feather demand and over-fishing, the brown pelican depends upon Columbia as a critical winter breeding area. One of only 3 ‘guano birds’, Columbian farmers rely upon their 'fertilizer'. After a brief U.S. recovery, Columbia’s brown pelican numbers remain low, and world-wide numbers now plummet from over-fishing of sardines. Now migrating thousands of miles, K15 was successfully rescued after a major injury. We can all help by reporting banded birds.
