    Despite its confrontation with modernity and foreign values such as that brought about by the growing influx of the tourist dollar, the spirit of Bali still holds strong. In everyday life, Hindu rituals predominate, the most spectacular to foreign eyes are the cremation ceremonies which appear preserved in the past mixed with local beliefs, vastly distinct from those held in India. In more recent times, the cremation itself is done with gas fire rather than upon on wood pyre.
