Mother Of All Animals
Palatki Ruins, Arizona, USA. These ancient pictographs were once painted onto this wall with white kaolin clay; fires lit in the ritual area below 'glazed' them with soot, eventually transforming them into black images. What they depict is that of the Sinagua culture's Mother Of All Animals (hominid figure, upper left) bringing forth the beasts of the world.
The Sinagua were, among many other things, ancestral to the Hopi people; it is the Hopi's interpretation that is given here.
