There are very few things that survive above the treeline which is anywhere between 9500 to 10,000 ft.. California's High Country is one of those rare places you can find the Foxtail Pine, a close relative to the Bristlecone Pine, which is the oldest living non-colonal trees on Earth. This is an image of Sawtooth Pass at approximately 11, 500 ft. in route to Sawtooth Summit at 12, 343 ft.. The terrain consists of sand, shale, loose rock and boulders. The Foxtails give it a prehistoric feeling.
