The Johns Hopkins glacier is one of the rare exceptions to our current climate trend because it is actually advancing. This photo was taken in the morning as an expedition crew took a small boat out to get closer. The blue tone of the glacier is not a post effect, this is the true color of the ice. Due to the extreme density, only the short wavelengths of color like blue are reflected, the longer wavelengths of color like red are completely absorbed.
