The northwest coast of the United States is home to some very fascinating geological and biological wonders. The area where this photo was taken is shrouded with fog for the better part of each day. Living along the coast are ancient Redwoods - some are thousands of years old, and hundreds of feet tall. In fact, they are so tall that they cannot get enough water to their leaves from their roots. To compensate for this, they absorb water - the fog - directly through their leaves.
