    Courtship advancement of the Wild yak, at Kekexili Wildlife Conservation, October 2015 The female yak enters oestrus depending on climatic factors and availability of feed. They are only receptive for a few hours in each cycle. So during the rut, the male yaks become aggressive and regularly fight among each other to establish dominance, i.e the only rightful access when the oestrus females appear.
