White-capped in a golden sky
A White-capped albatross illuminated by an incredible sunset just off Stewart Island (a few Kms south of New Zealands south island) streaks across the sky like a jet fighter. They can reach speeds of up to 100kmh (67mph).
A study between 2004-2007 found the White-capped albatross to be the most common albatross species killed in the New Zealand major trawl fisheries.
The conservation status of this species is currently classified by the IUCN as near threatened.
