Humanity and civilization dawned when man learnt how to tame fire. Fire is part of our evolution and its mesmerizing effect has been wired into our system and will stay there long after we have progressed to traverse through the universe. Having a drink at the barbecue I suppose does not have such a long history but I would put money on it, that it is here to stay.
