My friend's sister worked at the Auckland Zoo here in New Zealand. Before she left, I was allowed to accompany her as she went about feeding the animals and checking their environments were in good condition. The love and friendship I felt between her and these animals was amazing to witness, and at one point I managed to get this close-up. The emotion and intelligence in their eyes is just incredible. I felt a little sad looking at her in that cage, but she seemed content.
