This moment of grace in the company of a majestic elephant in Madikwe, near the Botswana-South Africa border, brought to you by: (1) An over-ambitious junior doctor, far from home and over her head at an AIDS hospital. (2) A long Easter weekend. (3) The impulse joining of a near-full safari tour. (4) Early-morning insomnia due to anti-malaria medication. (5) The tireless work of conservationists who protect the last elephant habitats. I was so fortunate to be there. May others be as well.
