Giant and Curious Bumphead Parrotfish
Schools of up to 100 bumpheads can be found in Yap, typically in very deep water where the visibility was poor. There was always a lone bumphead scout who would approach and swim around us- you can see the scout in this photo eyeing me. This one was about a meter and a half long (normal-sized fish are around the bumphead for scale) and had huge and grossly stained checkerboard buckteeth for eating the hard coral. The scars on his bump are from fighting other bumpheads.
