My NG friend Ashraf Refat made a request to see more of the heron/ moccasin encounter. In the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge I found a female great blue heron killing & eating a water moccasin/ cottonmouth. After the herons killed the snake, she swallowed the head first. The adult heron weighs about 5+ pounds. After eating the snake, this bird remained in the same area till late the next day. I suspect she was too heavy to fly away.
