    Hoar crystals form in Anchorage after a couple of days of persistent ice fog. When everything in sight gets covered with hoar, it makes for a beautiful winter wonderland. But - when these same beautiful crystals get buried under a deep snowpack without getting broken down, it creates a collapsible layer and sets up deadly avalanche conditions. Breathtaking on the surface, breath stealing below.
