This is a photo of a solitary female caribou in front of the mountains of Western Brook Gorge, Newfoundland. The caribou, like other similar northern grazing species such as the reindeer, are facing huge challenges due to global warming. These animals dig through the deep snow to forage for food, but changing climate has caused much of the barren areas to become covered in thick layers of ice, due to lack of snow cover.
