Inside the Tees barrage. We attended a local wildlife, canal and rivers trust open day this summer and were actually allowed to visit below the river level itself, whilst one of the gigantic sluice gates was getting some essential maintenance. The sluice gates have their massive hinges greased and inspected at set intervals. In the shot, you can see the scaffold tower, we had to climb down to access the work area.
