Blue-footed Booby - Galápagos
This blue-footed booby (Sula nebouxii) was sighted on North Seymour Island, Galápagos Islands.
These birds are able to plunge into the water from as high as 80 feet (24 meters) at approximately 60mph with deadly accuracy. As with most seabirds, they have developed an air-sac which helps cushion their brain from the impact of their dives.
The colouration of their feet is caused by carotenoid pigments, which the boobies get through their diet. These pigments are concentrated in their feet.
