Sentinels
In the Rocky Mountain Trench between Kimberley & Cranbrook lies the Wycliffe Buttes, a part of the Wycliffe Wildlife Corridor. The Land Conservancy of British Columbia has acquired parcels of land surrounding this corridor to protect endangered Ponderosa Pine and bunchgrass ecosystems vital to local mule deer and elk populations. Max the Dog is very interested in a herd of around 200 elk on the valley bottom. An easy 20 minute hike brought us to the top of the butte for a 360 degree view.
